General Notes on Data: AMG uses CAD/CAM software to program our CNC equipment. If your company has 2D or 3D data available it can streamline the process of making your parts.

Data Types: Because of the wide range of native design software that our customers use we accept very few native file formats. These data file types are universal and can typically be imported to our software without issue. IGES (.igs) STEP (.stp, .step) DXF (.dxf) DWG (.dwg)

Drawings or No Drawings: About 50% of the components we manufacture are made to match CAD data only with limited or no drawings. In this case all line data is taken to be nominal. Tolerances are typically +/- 0.005” unless otherwise noted. 3D data can contain information on tapped holes but as a precaution tapped holes should be called out in the data or as a note separate from the data file. The other half of our business is making parts from a 2D drawing or 2D data file (such as a DXF or DWG). In this case the data file or line data is secondary to the dimensions and tolerances shown on the print.

Engineering Changes: In product development changes are expected. How the changes are communicated to AMG will impact the time required to implement the changes and the cost. Data files should be coded with a revision or date stamp in the file name much like a drawing has a revision level in the title block.
